As two allergy-moms, the convenience of store brought food for our kids has never really been an option. It isn’t hard for us as we have never known any other way. We make A LOT of homemade allergy-friendly food, which is why we always love sharing our recipes and any snacks we discover that our kids can actually consume. We have to boast about our latest discovery: Pouch Love!
Food in a Pouch = Pouch Love
The ONE snack that are kids have loved from since they were babies until now is food in a pouch! Yet, we’ve battled to find versions in the shops that don’t use thickeners or preservatives that our kids react to. And they are so expensive to buy and bad for the environment! We did a little happy dance when we discovered a reusable pouch that we can get our hands on in SA: Pouch Love, available online at takealot and at most Kid Emporiums.
Pouch Love is a super easy-to-use pouch. It opens at the bottom and can be packed with any homemade deliciousness: purees, smoothies, yoghurts and even sauces. Our kids love to be able to grab their own snacks and go. The pouch, which is free from all the bad stuff like BPA, PHTHALATE and LEAD, can be reused up to 50 times. Also, it is so easy to clean once the kids have consumed all the goodness inside. This product has become part of our everyday life and we wouldn’t have it other way!
Our Pouch Love Recipes
We played with a few recipes from our new favourite allergy book, Mila’s Meals, to make this week’s batch of pouches. Yummy banana, apple and pear smoothie pouches (with a sprinkle of flax and chia seeds) and chickpea, sweet potato and banana puree pouches for after-school hungry tummies. Our Honey Smoothie recipe is also great in a pouch. We like to always have a sweet and savoury option stashed in the freezer. Pouch Love is our answer to “Moooooommmmmm, I am hungry!”
